Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Do you need a half-inch grid dicing kit in the standard package?
Yes. The exact BFP638 package list includes the Paradice Kit with dicing blade, grid, cleaner and gearbox; the separate Paradice Kit page also names BFP638 as compatible.
Explore this need in the finder →Would a French-fry disc be a separate essential tool?
BFP638 includes a half-inch dicing kit, not a French-fry cutting disc. Those jobs require different tools.
Explore this need in the finder →What quarter-inch height threshold fits the published 11.8-inch body?
Select a 12-inch maximum: the questionnaire uses quarter-inch steps, and Breville publishes 11.8 inches for the body. The measurement excludes extra space to handle the lid and chute.
Explore this need in the finder →Must every removable component be confirmed top-rack safe?
No. The B23 manual gives some dishwasher-safe parts but says the dicing gearbox and caddy are handwash-only; routine top-rack care for all removable pieces is not confirmed.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you need at least a 90-second continuous run for the S-blade?
No. The exact B23 booklet sets a one-minute-at-a-time S-blade limit, so a 90-second minimum is not supported.
Explore this need in the finder →The nine-cup Breville package that includes a dicing kit
The Paradice 9 BFP638 is a corded, nine-cup processor for shoppers who want the usual chopping, slicing and shredding tools plus grid dicing in the standard package. Its listed attachments are an S-blade, a reversible coarse/fine shredder, a 15-position adjustable slicer, a dough blade and the Paradice Kit: a dicing blade, half grid, gearbox and cleaner. The grid makes the category distinction concrete—the manufacturer specifies half-inch cubes—not a choice between infinitely adjustable dicing sizes.
The BFP638 shares its main workflow with the Sous Chef 9 BFP610: same stated nine-cup capacity, 4.7-inch wide feed chute, small chute and pusher, adjustable slicer, coarse/fine shred disc and dough blade. The kit changes what is supplied. Breville lists BFP610 as compatible with the Paradice Kit 9, but sells that kit separately; BFP638 identifies the kit as included. If you already own a compatible BFP610 and its separate kit, the dicing function may be the same reason to compare them, but do not count the kit as part of the BFP610 standard package.
What the dicing grid can—and cannot—promise
The kit is designed for half-inch grid cuts, with a cleaner to push food through the grid after processing. Breville's manual lists raw and cooked vegetables and fruit as dicing tasks. It recommends the smaller chute for harder ingredients such as carrot or pumpkin and notes that precooking can further improve results. Firmer tomatoes and avocados are suggested over very soft ones. That advice is a practical limit: the grid is useful for planned vegetable preparation, but it is not an all-food, one-touch guarantee or a French-fry tool.
The included wide chute is listed at 4.7 inches. It can reduce pre-cutting for some ingredients, but the manual still requires the food to sit upright, move freely and stay below the MAX mark. For narrow items such as carrots or cucumbers, it directs the user to the small feed chute to avoid tipping during slicing. The adjustable slicer spans 0.3 to 5 mm; a reversible disc provides coarse and fine shredding. There is no listed separate thick-slicing disc or French-fry disc. If a specific cut is essential, check the attachment name and manual rather than inferring it from “Paradice.”
Batching, dough and cleanup are part of the decision
The S-blade suits chopping, mixing and the manual's listed food types, but its manual entry sets a one-minute-at-a-time motor limit. The general safeguards also prohibit crushing ice and processing hot or boiling liquid, and the bowl's marked ingredient fill limits remain important even though it is a nine-cup model. Bread and pizza dough use the separate dough blade; the manual lists a maximum of 525 g flour. That is a dough-specific ceiling, not a promise that every recipe at that size will behave the same way.
More supplied parts also mean more cleanup. The manual says the dicing gearbox and caddy should be handwashed; the spindle, blades and discs can go in a dishwasher. It recommends handwashing the bowl and lid for routine care, allowing only occasional top-shelf dishwasher use because detergent, heat and pressure can shorten plastic and interlock life. The grid and blade are sharp, and the cleaner is there to help clear the grid without reaching into its cutting edges. The caddy fits inside the bowl for storage, but the dicing kit adds both a useful function and parts to clean and put away.
Compare the package, not just the nine-cup label
Breville publishes the BFP638 body dimensions as 17.5 by 7.7 by 11.8 inches (width, depth and height), compared with 15.5 by 7.7 by 9 inches for the BFP610. Check the actual shelf clearance with the lid and pusher stored separately; the published body height is not a guarantee of cabinet fit. The BFP638 lists a 625-watt motor, two-year product warranty and 30-year limited motor warranty. That extended term covers the motor rather than every part of the appliance.
For a nine-cup Breville without an included dicing grid, choose the BFP610 if its four listed attachments meet your needs or if you already have the compatible kit. Choose BFP638 if half-inch dicing is a repeat job and you prefer it in the supplied set. Neither solves a need for a French-fry disc, a second bowl, a larger rated bowl or a compact chopper. The two nine-cup product pages also list several finish codes; this review's image is the Brushed Stainless Steel BFP638BSS1BNA1, and that image should not be read as showing the Black Truffle, Sea Salt, Damson Blue, Almond Nougat or Olive Tapenade finish.
This assessment follows the exact U.S. BFP638 product page, the page-linked 70-page BFP638 booklet and the manufacturer image for the Brushed Stainless Steel finish. It is not a hands-on or lab test; use the booklet's assembly, batch and care instructions with the exact appliance package.

Compare exact tools and manual limits: Cuisinart Mini-Prep Plus DLC-2A and DLC-4CHB, CCH-3, ECH-4SV and MCH-4 Chop/Grind batches; Hamilton Beach 70450 bowl and reversible-disc tasks; the 70510’s documented bowl-based smoothie method and slicing disc; FP-5 and FP-7 bowls; the FP-9CF continuous-feed setup; KitchenAid choppers; and larger processors. Hamilton Beach 70585 adds a 14-cup bowl, nested 4-cup chop/puree bowl, a dough blade for up to 4 cups flour and top-rack care; compare its separate task caps before batch prep. For a 10-cup bowl with a lid-operated scraper, compare the Hamilton Beach 70730J; its scraper is limited to blade work, and the manual rules out kneading dough, ice crushing and grinding. Hamilton Beach 70723G adds a 10-cup Stack & Snap package with a two-minute manual motor-on limit; it has no dough blade or scraper. The Hamilton Beach 70740G offers an eight-cup bowl with a reversible disc; its manual limits produce and cheese batches below the headline bowl size and rules out dough, ice-crushing and dry-grinding. The white 70733 adds a page-listed 10-cup scraper package, but its linked manual labels 70730/70731; do not carry those operating limits over. Compare it only for exact page-backed tools and keep top-rack, scraper/disc compatibility and task limits unknown. Breville adds two nine-cup choices: the Sous Chef 9 BFP610 has an adjustable slicer and dough blade without a standard-box dicing grid, while the Paradice 9 BFP638 includes a half-inch dicing kit. Compare the <a href="/learn/breville-sous-chef-9-vs-paradice-9/">two Breville nine-cup packages</a> by tool list, manual care and listed body height. Compare Breville’s current Paradice 12 BFP738 and Paradice 16 BFP838 by their distinct bowl sizes, dicing grids, included mini bowl and fry disc in the <a href="/learn/breville-paradice-12-vs-16/">Paradice 12-versus-16 guide</a>. Compare the BFP800 Pro, BFP810 and BFP820 Peel & Dice by their separate packages in the <a href="/learn/breville-sous-chef-16-bfp800-810-820/">Sous Chef 16 family guide</a>: the included grid, peeler and mini-bowl details change the answer. Ninja TotalCrush IQ801BK is a three-vessel hybrid with one 8-cup processor bowl, a separate 72-ounce pitcher and a separate 24-ounce tumbler; compare its chopping/dough tool list with CrushBOSS slice/shred/crinkle and dicing packages. Braun EasyPrep package choices also differ: FP3101BK lists one fixed 4 mm reversible slicing/grating disc; FP3211SI lists fixed 2 mm and 4 mm discs plus a dough tool; CH3012BK is the small chopper with a listed mayonnaise accessory and separate 0.5 L working-capacity figure. Vitamix SmartPrep systems combine an Ascent blender with a separate SELF-DETECT processor attachment: X2 has three blender programs, X4 itemizes julienne and veggie-stick discs, and X5 lists ten blender programs but the standard processor discs. X5 Deluxe adds a blending cup-and-bowl kit, not a second processor bowl. The attachment manual sets 12 cups dry, 8 wet and a three-minute continuous-use ceiling. Oster adds a white six-cup blender and three-cup processor attachment in SAP 2197995; compare that format with the glass-jar 6878 chopper and the ten-cup 2142993 bowl processor in the Oster package guide. Proctor Silex has two earlier sizes worth distinguishing: the 72706 is a three-cup mini processor with an oil-dispenser lid and small-quantity adjuster, while the 70810 is a nine-cup Quick Clean model with a reversible slice/shred disc. Both exact pages say No Longer Available; their manuals do not support every task a larger bowl might suggest.
