Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Is an included 12 mm dicing kit important in a 12-cup machine?
The exact BFP738 page includes the Paradice 12 kit with a 0.5-inch/12 mm half-grid system.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you need a 16-cup bowl rather than a 12-cup rating?
Breville rates the BFP738 at 12 cups; it does not meet a 16-cup minimum.

The Breville Paradice 12 BFP738 is a current U.S. food processor sold in the Brushed Stainless Steel configuration BFP738BSS1BNA1. Its main distinction is not merely the 12-cup bowl: Breville includes its Paradice 12 kit, with a half-inch (12 mm) grid-and-blade system for dicing. The wide chute, adjustable slicer, reversible shredder, S-Blade and dough blade make it a broader prep package than a processor sold with only a chopping blade and one slicing disc. This assessment uses Breville’s U.S. BFP738 page and the BFP738 manual linked from its model-specific U.S. support page; it is not based on ownership or hands-on testing.
When the 12 mm kit is the right fit
The dicing kit is useful when regular cubes matter for salads, soups, vegetable prep or a repeated mise-en-place routine. The advertised BFP738 kit is a single half-inch size. If you specifically need smaller 8 mm or larger 16 mm cubes, do not assume this 12 mm package covers the request: the larger Paradice 16 BFP838 is the family member whose U.S. page and manual list all three sizes. The BFP738 product page does not list a French-fry disc, so a dedicated fry cut is another reason to compare the BFP838 rather than treating any dicing grid as interchangeable with a fry tool.
Breville lists the 12-cup bowl and 2-in-1 wide chute as two different convenience points. The chute ranges from 2.76 to 5.2 inches; that can reduce some pre-cutting, but it is not the same published 5.5-inch chute on the BFP838. The manual-linked product is still a bowl processor, not a continuous-feed slicer. Large produce may fit through the wide opening, while long or narrow pieces may be better supported in the smaller chute; always follow the exact manual’s marked fill line and assembly instructions.
More than a dicer, less than a sixteen-cup kit
The exact BFP738 page lists the Paradice 12 kit, spindle, reversible shredder, adjustable slicer, S-Blade and dough blade. The integrated caddy is described as housing the S-Blade, shredder, slicer and dough blade. In practical terms, it covers chopping, adjustable slicing, shredding and dough work as well as the included dicing workflow. The page calls the shredder reversible but does not spell out separate cut grades in its item list, so check the supplied manual or markings on the disc if a particular shred size is essential.
Breville publishes body dimensions of 8.66 inches wide by 11.02 deep by 16.73 high, and a weight of 23.15 pounds. Those measurements help with initial counter planning, but height is not the same as working clearance: the lid and pushers need room to assemble and the bowl needs space to lift off. The 12-cup rating also does not establish that every food or dough recipe can be processed as one full bowl. Consult the BFP738-specific manual task table for load limits rather than converting the bowl label into a universal batch size.
Care, power and limits to verify
The U.S. product page lists a 1,440-watt motor, 120-volt supply, a 12-amp rating-label value, and a two-year product warranty plus a separate 30-year limited motor warranty. Those are manufacturer specifications and terms, not independent performance results. The product page describes the bowl and lid as easy to clean and dishwasher safe. The BFP738 instruction book is linked directly from the exact-model support page; use its care section for part-by-part direction rather than extending the broad bowl-and-lid claim to every blade, gearbox or attachment. Likewise, the twelve-cup headline is not a substitute for the booklet’s task-specific amounts or safety steps.
This distinction matters most if cleanup routine or large dough batches are non-negotiable. Do not assume every removable part is routinely dishwasher-safe just because the product page describes the bowl and lid that way, and do not infer a flour maximum from the processor’s bowl volume. If those are essential constraints, check the current BFP738 manual before purchasing. The manual also controls safe dicing assembly and the foods the grid can process; the grid is sharp equipment, not a free-form chopping shortcut.
Choosing among the Breville twelve- and sixteen-cup options
The BFP738 suits someone who wants a 12-cup working bowl, an included 12 mm dice and the standard slicing/shredding/dough tools without moving up to the Paradice 16’s three-grid kit. Choose the BFP838 if the additional bowl capacity, 8/12/16 mm dicing set, French-fry disc, mini bowl or timer control answers a real recurring need. For an earlier 12-cup option, the Sous Chef BFP660 and BFP680 packages have different histories and tool sets; the exact U.S. versions assessed here do not list an included dicing kit. The BFP680 adds a nested mini bowl, while the BFP660 is a simpler single-bowl configuration.
For a side-by-side package decision, see the Paradice 12 versus Paradice 16 guide. In the finder, BFP738 can fit a current-reference, twelve-cup-or-larger request that requires an included dicing kit. It does not meet a 16-cup minimum or a documented demand for the 8 mm and 16 mm grid sizes. It also should not be selected for an essential dishwasher-all-parts requirement until the model’s own instructions confirm that exact care routine. Compare the BFP738BSS1BNA1 U.S. product page with the BFP738 U.S. instruction book for the current package and operating directions.

Compare exact tools and manual limits: Cuisinart Mini-Prep Plus DLC-2A and DLC-4CHB, CCH-3, ECH-4SV and MCH-4 Chop/Grind batches; Hamilton Beach 70450 bowl and reversible-disc tasks; the 70510’s documented bowl-based smoothie method and slicing disc; FP-5 and FP-7 bowls; the FP-9CF continuous-feed setup; KitchenAid choppers; and larger processors. Hamilton Beach 70585 adds a 14-cup bowl, nested 4-cup chop/puree bowl, a dough blade for up to 4 cups flour and top-rack care; compare its separate task caps before batch prep. For a 10-cup bowl with a lid-operated scraper, compare the Hamilton Beach 70730J; its scraper is limited to blade work, and the manual rules out kneading dough, ice crushing and grinding. Hamilton Beach 70723G adds a 10-cup Stack & Snap package with a two-minute manual motor-on limit; it has no dough blade or scraper. The Hamilton Beach 70740G offers an eight-cup bowl with a reversible disc; its manual limits produce and cheese batches below the headline bowl size and rules out dough, ice-crushing and dry-grinding. The white 70733 adds a page-listed 10-cup scraper package, but its linked manual labels 70730/70731; do not carry those operating limits over. Compare it only for exact page-backed tools and keep top-rack, scraper/disc compatibility and task limits unknown. Breville adds two nine-cup choices: the Sous Chef 9 BFP610 has an adjustable slicer and dough blade without a standard-box dicing grid, while the Paradice 9 BFP638 includes a half-inch dicing kit. Compare the two Breville nine-cup packages by tool list, manual care and listed body height. Compare the BFP800 Pro, BFP810 and BFP820 Peel & Dice by their separate packages in the Sous Chef 16 family guide: the included grid, peeler and mini-bowl details change the answer. Ninja TotalCrush IQ801BK is a three-vessel hybrid with one 8-cup processor bowl, a separate 72-ounce pitcher and a separate 24-ounce tumbler; compare its chopping/dough tool list with CrushBOSS slice/shred/crinkle and dicing packages. Braun EasyPrep package choices also differ: FP3101BK lists one fixed 4 mm reversible slicing/grating disc; FP3211SI lists fixed 2 mm and 4 mm discs plus a dough tool; CH3012BK is the small chopper with a listed mayonnaise accessory and separate 0.5 L working-capacity figure. Vitamix SmartPrep systems combine an Ascent blender with a separate SELF-DETECT processor attachment: X2 has three blender programs, X4 itemizes julienne and veggie-stick discs, and X5 lists ten blender programs but the standard processor discs. X5 Deluxe adds a blending cup-and-bowl kit, not a second processor bowl. The attachment manual sets 12 cups dry, 8 wet and a three-minute continuous-use ceiling. Oster adds a white six-cup blender and three-cup processor attachment in SAP 2197995; compare that format with the glass-jar 6878 chopper and the ten-cup 2142993 bowl processor in the Oster package guide. Proctor Silex has two earlier sizes worth distinguishing: the 72706 is a three-cup mini processor with an oil-dispenser lid and small-quantity adjuster, while the 70810 is a nine-cup Quick Clean model with a reversible slice/shred disc. Both exact pages say No Longer Available; their manuals do not support every task a larger bowl might suggest.
