A useful fit for

A cautious manual-reference page for an owner whose type plate identifies 72588 / Type FC08 and who wants the matching cover-operated instructions; it is not a verified retail offer.

The main tradeoff

FC08 documents a 1.5-cup bowl and 3/4-cup wet limit, with a cover-operated switch rather than the FC04 base button or FC05 LO/HI controls. Its manual family does not establish a 72588 retail suffix or lifecycle.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Would a 1.5-cup rated bowl be enough for this small task?

The FC08 family guide rates the bowl at 1.5 cups; a separate liquid maximum is lower. The guide lists 72588 among the models it covers, but does not prove an exact retail suffix.

Is a 3/4-cup wet maximum sufficient for the batch?

The FC08 manual caps liquid at 3/4 cup (188 ml); one cup is outside that plan. Bowl volume is not a substitute for the liquid limit.

Must the cover, bowl, and blade be top-rack dishwasher-safe?

The FC08 guide permits the cover, bowl, and blade on the dishwasher’s top rack; the motor base is wiped only and not immersed.

Model 72588 appears in more than one Proctor Silex manual arrangement, so a useful identification needs the type marking too. Official Use & Care guide 840128807 lists models 72500, 72507, and 72588 as Type FC08, rated 120 V, 60 Hz, and 70 W. The booklet's title is 72500RY, and its line drawing illustrates the shared FC08 family; it is not an exact retail photograph of a 72588 package. This review uses only the 72588/FC08 facts printed in that family guide. No exact retail suffix, package page, or lifecycle status for 72588 was confirmed.

What the Type FC08 manual supports

The manual gives a 1.5-cup (375 ml) bowl capacity and a maximum liquid amount of ¾ cup (188 ml). Do not substitute the bowl rating for a wet-recipe limit. If your regular job is a small portion of chopped ingredients or a short pulse of a sauce component, the scale may be appropriate; if a one-cup or larger liquid batch is essential, the manual's wet ceiling rules this setup out. The instructions emphasize small quantities for immediate consumption and say the appliance is not intended to prepare large amounts at one time.

FC08's control differs from the button-based FC04 and LO/HI-button FC05 manuals. The instructions say to turn the cover to switch the chopper ON and OFF and describe holding it in the ON position for continuous operation, while recommending brief turns for more control. That is useful to know when identifying an existing appliance, but the booklet gives no numeric maximum run time. Do not turn its pulse advice into a made-up 10-, 30-, or 60-second limit.

The guide's parts illustration covers a lid, blade, bowl, and base. It describes chopping, mincing, and pureeing with the stainless blade, rather than a processor attachment system. No slicing/shredding disc or dicing kit is listed for this configuration. The manual also warns not to process raw meat, cheese, coffee beans, whole squares of baking chocolate, or whole hard spices; follow its food-preparation and safety instructions rather than judging a task by the appearance of the blade.

Cleaning and warranty information

The cover, bowl, and blade may be washed on the top rack of an automatic dishwasher. The base should be wiped with a damp cloth, not immersed; handle the blade carefully. The instructions call the appliance household-only and require the bowl and cover to be locked in place during operation. For this configuration, the manual states a one-year limited warranty for products purchased in the U.S. and Canada. That warranty language belongs to the guide; without an exact 72588 sales page and suffix bridge, it does not establish the package, sale date, or coverage of a particular unit.

Do not confuse FC08 with another 72588

Type FC04, documented in a separate 2004 manual, also has a 1.5-cup, 70 W rating but places an On/Pulse control button on the base and states 175 ml as the liquid ceiling. Type FC05 is different again: a 3-cup bowl, 135 W, 1¾-cup liquid ceiling, and LO/HI pulse buttons. The numeric model digits alone would hide those distinctions. Before using an inherited chopper or buying a replacement bowl, read the complete type marking and compare it with the manual; these documents do not establish part interchangeability between types.

Another identity boundary matters here: 72500RY has its own exact Proctor Silex product page, which states that it is no longer available and gives a one-year warranty. Although 840128807's title says 72500RY and its model panel includes 72588 in the FC08 group, that is not evidence that 72588 and 72500RY are the same retail SKU. The line art above is a manual-family illustration, not a photograph of an exact 72588 suffix.

Who this reference is for

This page can help an owner identify a 72588 whose type plate says FC08, understand the 1.5-cup/¾-cup distinction, and locate the matching operating instructions. It is deliberately kept outside buying recommendations: the manufacturer's archive page has no visible 72588 row in the snapshot reviewed, no exact marketed suffix was found, and current or discontinued status remains unknown. This avoids representing an uncertain used listing as a verified model.

For a current small chopper purchase, compare the exact 72500G and 72507G product pages and use their own current descriptions and instructions; do not assume that they are 72588 replacements. If you need a larger bowl, disc tools, or more than ¾ cup of wet ingredients, choose a different documented plan whose own manual meets that need. If you already own the 72588/FC08, use the model/type combination on the appliance label to select its guide and verify repair parts with the manufacturer before ordering.

Choose a tool set for your usual prep.

Compare exact tools and manual limits: Cuisinart Mini-Prep Plus DLC-2A and DLC-4CHB, CCH-3, ECH-4SV and MCH-4 Chop/Grind batches; Hamilton Beach 70450 bowl and reversible-disc tasks; the 70510’s documented bowl-based smoothie method and slicing disc; FP-5 and FP-7 bowls; the FP-9CF continuous-feed setup; KitchenAid choppers; and larger processors. Hamilton Beach 70585 adds a 14-cup bowl, nested 4-cup chop/puree bowl, a dough blade for up to 4 cups flour and top-rack care; compare its separate task caps before batch prep. For a 10-cup bowl with a lid-operated scraper, compare the Hamilton Beach 70730J; its scraper is limited to blade work, and the manual rules out kneading dough, ice crushing and grinding. Hamilton Beach 70723G adds a 10-cup Stack & Snap package with a two-minute manual motor-on limit; it has no dough blade or scraper. The Hamilton Beach 70740G offers an eight-cup bowl with a reversible disc; its manual limits produce and cheese batches below the headline bowl size and rules out dough, ice-crushing and dry-grinding. The white 70733 adds a page-listed 10-cup scraper package, but its linked manual labels 70730/70731; do not carry those operating limits over. Compare it only for exact page-backed tools and keep top-rack, scraper/disc compatibility and task limits unknown. Breville adds two nine-cup choices: the Sous Chef 9 BFP610 has an adjustable slicer and dough blade without a standard-box dicing grid, while the Paradice 9 BFP638 includes a half-inch dicing kit. Compare the two Breville nine-cup packages by tool list, manual care and listed body height. Compare Breville’s current Paradice 12 BFP738 and Paradice 16 BFP838 by their distinct bowl sizes, dicing grids, included mini bowl and fry disc in the Paradice 12-versus-16 guide. Compare the BFP800 Pro, BFP810 and BFP820 Peel & Dice by their separate packages in the Sous Chef 16 family guide: the included grid, peeler and mini-bowl details change the answer. Ninja TotalCrush IQ801BK is a three-vessel hybrid with one 8-cup processor bowl, a separate 72-ounce pitcher and a separate 24-ounce tumbler; compare its chopping/dough tool list with CrushBOSS slice/shred/crinkle and dicing packages. Braun EasyPrep package choices also differ: FP3101BK lists one fixed 4 mm reversible slicing/grating disc; FP3211SI lists fixed 2 mm and 4 mm discs plus a dough tool; CH3012BK is the small chopper with a listed mayonnaise accessory and separate 0.5 L working-capacity figure. Vitamix SmartPrep systems combine an Ascent blender with a separate SELF-DETECT processor attachment: X2 has three blender programs, X4 itemizes julienne and veggie-stick discs, and X5 lists ten blender programs but the standard processor discs. X5 Deluxe adds a blending cup-and-bowl kit, not a second processor bowl. The attachment manual sets 12 cups dry, 8 wet and a three-minute continuous-use ceiling. Oster adds a white six-cup blender and three-cup processor attachment in SAP 2197995; compare that format with the glass-jar 6878 chopper and the ten-cup 2142993 bowl processor in the Oster package guide. Proctor Silex has two earlier sizes worth distinguishing: the 72706 is a three-cup mini processor with an oil-dispenser lid and small-quantity adjuster, while the 70810 is a nine-cup Quick Clean model with a reversible slice/shred disc. Both exact pages say No Longer Available; their manuals do not support every task a larger bowl might suggest.
