Breville package comparison

Breville Sous Chef 9 BFP610 or Paradice 9 BFP638?

Breville nine-cup comparison

Both machines use a nine-cup bowl and share the same broad everyday toolkit: S-blade, coarse/fine reversible shredder, adjustable slicer, dough blade, small feed chute and a 4.7-inch wide chute. The package difference is more important than the shared capacity. BFP638 includes Breville's half-inch Paradice dicing kit; BFP610's listed standard attachments do not.

Choose by the job that repeats

If you regularly prep vegetables or fruit into grid-cut cubes, BFP638 makes that tool part of the standard box. Its manual identifies a half-inch grid, blade, gearbox and cleaner, and offers practical guidance for harder produce. This is a defined cut size, not a French-fry accessory. Its dicing gearbox and caddy are handwash-only, so frequent dicing also means more cleanup.

BFP610 is the cleaner fit when slicing, chopping, fine/coarse shredding or dough are the real weekly jobs and an included dicing grid is not essential. The product page's generic caddy copy can mention a dicing kit, but the itemized BFP610 accessory list excludes it and the same page presents the compatible Paradice Kit 9 separately under “usually purchased with.” If buying a retailer bundle, verify the package contents rather than assuming an accessory shown nearby is included.

What does not change between them?

Both are rated at nine cups. Both have a 15-level slicer, a reversible coarse/fine shredder and a dough blade. The wide chute is listed as 4.7 inches; its width does not mean every ingredient may be loaded whole. Both manuals require using an appropriate chute, avoiding overfill and following the marked MAX limits. They also prohibit ice crushing and hot-liquid processing. The S-blade's manual entry sets a one-minute-at-a-time motor limit; these are household processors, not substitute ice crushers or high-volume commercial machines.

Storage may be decisive. Breville publishes the BFP610 at 15.5 × 7.7 × 9 inches and the BFP638 at 17.5 × 7.7 × 11.8 inches, each in width × depth × height order. Measure your shelf with room for assembly and access, and consider where the loose discs and sharp dicing parts will dry. Product pages list a 625-watt motor, two-year product warranty and separate 30-year limited motor warranty for both models; that long period applies to the motor, not the entire appliance.

A quick decision

  • Read the BFP610 assessment if you want a nine-cup slicing/shredding and dough set without standard-box dicing.
  • Read the BFP638 assessment if the included half-inch grid kit is worth its extra parts and taller body.
  • Neither is the right match if you require a French-fry disc, a second bowl, a higher rated capacity or every removable item to be top-rack dishwasher-safe; use the finder to compare those hard requirements.

These distinctions come from the exact U.S. product pages and their own instruction books. The images and package descriptions are manufacturer materials, not independent performance testing.
